Gift baskets are, as the name implies, baskets with no functional purpose other than to be regarded as a beautiful gift, often given at monumental events like marriages or births. Gift baskets are typically covered with beads or feathers, in such high concentrations sometimes that one is unable to see the basket weave from the outside, and in other cases, these design elements are used sparingly in tandem with designs created with redbud or bulrush. The inclusion of clamshell disk beads is often associated with gift baskets as are the feathers of red headed woodpecker, mallard duck, chinese pheasant, and oriole. Gift baskets can take months to years to complete depending on the size.
