Coiled Feather Basket
Part of the Elsie Allen Pomo Basket Collection
A truly extraordinary creation, this basket is entirely covered on the convex surface with the feathers of the mallard duck and meadowlark. An exquisite floral pattern, in some ways similar to #74, has been achieved using the contrasting yellow and deep green tones. The rim is decorated with Washington clam shell money beads. Quail top knot feathers accentuate the rim. The preservation of the feathers is outstanding. As is #74, this basket is one of the finest of this kind in existence today. The weave is three-rod coiling with a sedge grass root weft over willow warp sticks.
