Coiled Basket
Part of the Elsie Allen Pomo Basket Collection
This piece was constructed by the great weaver, Annie Burke, using a three-rod coiling with a willow foundation. The designs are deep black from the dyed bulrush. The patterns are triangular arrowhead shapes that spiral up from the base with a central row of checks. Sedge grass root forms the weft material. Small red feathers dot the surface, probably from the woodpecker crests. A fine globose form was achieved.
