Beaded Basket
Part of the Elsie Allen Pomo Basket Collection
From a great artist, this magnificent creation has contrasting red, green, and white, glass seed beads sewn into the coiled weft against a deep blue field of glass seed beads. The Pomo are the only tribe where this tradition exists of sewing the beads into the weave. In this piece the weaver has utilized the arrowhead designs, that rise up from the central base floral shape, becoming diamonds on the sides. One-rod coiling was employed using willow warp and a weft of sedge grass root. This is an extraordinary example, one of the finest in any collection in the world today. It could likely draw such attention at auction that the sale price could exceed the stated figure.
