A "bidu sha khun" or acorn drying basket, this beautiful example has light and dark concentric bands of design. Both unpeeled and peeled willow were incorporated for this purpose in the plain twining.

According to ethnographic data, this basket dates from before 1884, and was made in Hopland. It is a Pomo classic, with the flaring cone shape and the bold spiral designs in a lattice bound weave of twined redbud. Sedge grass root forms the diagonally twined weft that has a willow warp foundation.
