The Languages of Headwear

On Exhibit from July 28th, 2021 to December 31st, 2022

Languages of Headward

Identity, Status, Ceremony, Protection. The items that people wear on their heads can tell us so much about them, if we just understand the language. This exhibit is an exploration of the theme of headwear from cultures across the world. All of the featured headwear is from the permanent collections of the SRJC Museum. Among the many objects on display are a 17th Century Samurai helmet from Japan, a colorfully beaded Chief's hat from the Democratic Republic of Congo, a woman's Victorian era mourning hat from Germany, and a feathered head ring from the Conibo tribe in the Amazon rainforest. On display through the end of the Fall 2022 semester.
