Coiled Beaded Canoe Basket

Pomo Coiled canoe basket. it is of a single rod foundation weft is sedge grass root. The designs are done in dyed bulrush root. Clamshell disc beads are sewn completely around the side of the basket with cotton twine which is light and dark. The beads are placed on top of small rectangular shapes which form diagonal patterns in basket. The basket is crudely woven with lumps and uneven stitches. It is an old basket and dates to the early part of the century
