Coiled Basket

Coiled Basket

Flaring coiled bowl basket decorated with feather and disc beads. The sides flare from the bottom which has a three-rod foundation of willow. Coiling direction is clockwise when viewed from above. The designs are done in dyed bulrush root and the weft is sedge grass root. The designs are zigzag patterns surrounded by triangular shapes; there are 3 sets which rise from base to upper portion of side of basket. There is a geometric pattern at base of basket. It is designed in such a way that it is irregular and therefore probably forms a dau pattern. There are alternating light and dark bands on rim which produce a rim ticking design. There are feathers which are quail top knot feathers in 3-expanses of beads and feathers. Some of the disc beads are missing and the feathers are completely deteriorated on one of the expanses.
