Wooden enema tube of "wangey" wood. Has two faces carved on either side. Used for hallucinogenic purposes. Of unusually large form. Signs of handling and use. Clyster unclear if was for medicinal use or for the administration of hallucinogens

  • Cultural Context: Enema tubes, or clysters, have been one of the preferred methods for imbibing substances throughout the world since ancient times. With records extending as far back as Egypt, the purpose of the clyster was primarily medicinal, although hallucinogens can, and have, been used in conjunction with enema tubes. Like many things in Kuba culture, the clyster would be decorated with designs and etching.
