Veracruz smiling head formed from unpainted dark brown clay. Hollow constructed head is wearing an undecorated "helmet" type of hat possibly indicating a ball player. Face appears young, delicate with teeth showing. Right ear is broken. Nose is hooked. An intentional rough finish covers the nose, cheeks, and mouth, as if a mask or covering of some sort were over the features at one time. There is a small amount of dirt caked in left ear and in crevice above right ear, where there is a small amount of organic / plant material that appears to have grown through small holes above the ear and helmet. A small label is on the back of helmet with an illegible number and the number 10. Also a 2" X 3/4" area where adhesive has left a mark. This head came with a small wooden stand with "136" written in pencil, and a faded label with "Veracruz" and "Totonac(a)" written on it.
