Beaded Leather Bag

Beaded leather bag from Crow Reservation, Great Plains, circa 1890. Brain tanned deer hide. Beads range from colors of periwinkle, yellow-gold, red, dark red, and white that decorate the majority of the bag, to a different bead type along the opening rim/edge of the bag varying from translucent light brown beads, translucent dark brown beads, to almost metallic black beads. Beaded horseshoes represent the number of horses stolen. Donor note included says that the bag was traded for food during the winter. Donor note: "Antique -- Crow Indian beaded bag. 1890.
