Runic Stone
Runic Stone: Greenland -
Black runic stone from around the year 1300, found near three cairns on the island Kingittorsuaq north of Upernavik in Greenland. The inscription reads:”Erling Sigvartson, Bjarne Thordalson and Enride Oddson, the Saturday before Rogation Day (April 25th) made these cairns and...” (The rest is shrouded in mystery.)
In those times runes were used to mark goods and belongings. The men from the Nordic settlements raised the cairns and probably had an involuntary stay during winter. The original is displayed at the National Museum.
The copy is made from colored resin and is the original size.
