  • Cultural Context: This type of patchwork was created during Pinochet regime in Peru. Because media was suppressed and no information left the country, Catholic priests helped the women of Peru get word out to the rest of the world about the atrocities happening under Pinochet. They made these scenes telling a story about the "disappeared" by show male partners as missing in the scene. They were often covered in lace veil to indicate it was one such scene.
