Coiled Plaque

Coiled Plaque

Part of the Elsie Allen Pomo Basket Collection Sedge grass root is coiled over a single rod foundation. Black design elements are woven in dyed bulrush. In this example, the designs form three zigzags that radiate from the center. A "Dau" is formed by black stitches that stand alone. Pomo miniatures are made to demonstrate the weaver's skill and have been well received in today's collector's market. This example retains the form and the designs found in full-sized coiled plaques.
