Beaded Basket

Beaded Basket

Part of the Elsie Allen Pomo Basket Collection Made by an unknown but highly skilled weaver, this piece has yellow, blue, black, and orange, glass seed beads sewn into the coiled weft. The Pomo are the only tribe where this tradition exists. In this piece the weaver has utilized the elbow or lightning designs, zigzags that spiral up from the base on the sides of the globose shape. One-rod coiling was employed using willow warp and a weft of sedge grass root. This is a fine example with unusual but pleasing beaded designs.
