Fish Trap
Part of the Elsie Allen Pomo Basket Collection
This rare fish trap is designed for used in midstream or in the ocean surf. A funnel closure at the opening traps the fish in the closed cone behind the opening. Made of unpeeled willow for both warp and weft, the weave is a plain twining. Very few such baskets exist today. It has significant ethnographic and display importance even though the market value is not as great as more decorative basketry.
