Coiled Basket

Coiled Basket

Part of the Elsie Allen Pomo Basket Collection Three-rod coiling was employed in this exquisite form that illustrates the artistry of a great weaver. Dyed bulrush roots were used to make the black designs that contrast nicely with the weft of sedge grass root. The foundation is three-rods of willow. A low globose shape was created with coiling that is to the left. Approximately 76 stitches are woven per square inch of basket surface. This is truly an exceptional basket.
