Beaded Basket

Beaded Basket

Part of the Elsie Allen Pomo Basket Collection From the inspired hands of a great weaver, this creation has contrasting blue and white glass seed beads sewn into the coiled weft. The Pomo are the only tribe where this tradition exists. In this piece the weaver has utilized the arrowhead shapes that rise up from the base on the white sides of the globose shape. One-rod coiling was employed using willow warp and a weft of sedge grass root. This is a fine and rare example. Each stitch has two beads sewn in.
