Beaded Goblet

Beaded Goblet

Part of the Elsie Allen Pomo Basket Collection This non-traditional shape was a common form made for tourist sale during the early part of this century. In this example the goblet cup is covered in a beaded diamond pattern, achieved with glass seed beads that are sewn into the sedge grass root weft. The Pomo are the only tribal culture in America that specializes in the sewn-in beaded baskets. In this example black, yellow, and white, seed beads are used. The goblet stem is coiled with redbud designs that spiral upward from the flared base. One-rod coiling is used throughout.
