Twined Basket
Part of the Elsie Allen Pomo Basket Collection
This lovely large bowl was made for Genevieve Aguilar by her grandmother, Annie Burke. The family describes the basket as a serving bowl. Open lattice twining forms the primary weave. Three bands of designs in redbud grace the sides, forming large and small checks. The overall shape is beautifully globose with a wide opening. A rim rod, wrapped in alternating light and dark segments is very attractive. Willow forms the warp. The weft is sedge grass root.
