Twined Basket

Twined Basket

Part of the Elsie Allen Pomo Basket Collection This lovely large bowl was made for Genevieve Aguilar by her grandmother, Annie Burke. The family describes the basket as a serving bowl. Open lattice twining forms the primary weave. Three bands of designs in redbud grace the sides, forming large and small checks. The overall shape is beautifully globose with a wide opening. A rim rod, wrapped in alternating light and dark segments is very attractive. Willow forms the warp. The weft is sedge grass root.
