Twined Utility Basket

Twined Utility Basket

Part of the Elsie Allen Pomo Basket Collection This globose shaped piece was woven before 1938. Its pleasing form is made of willow, peeled for the warp and much of the weft. Dark horizontal band designs utilize unpeeled willow blended with peeled willow. Three strand twining is the basic weave method. The warps are bent and twined into the rim. There is at one point a rim coil wrapping.
