Jesse Peter, Ed Lyman, and William Nisson (left to right) at the Carson City (NV) Tourist Cabins. The photo caption idicates that this is where the men stayed during their field trip in Nevada. Peter is kneeling next to Lyman who appears to be taking notes or sketching. Nisson, also writing &/or drawing, sits on a chair in the doorway. The 1928 Chevy is parked halfway into an attatched garage and the front yard contains a tripod of 2x4 lumber supporting a sappling tree. The cabin has wood siding, a tarpaper roof and screen door. Two powerlines are attatched to the roof over the garage and a floodlight is mounted on the roof near the left corner.

  • Cultural Context: Jesse Peter was a woodshop teacher at Santa Rosa Middle School and a good friend of Floyd P. Bailey who was president of the Jr. College at that time. Peter would conduct field expeditions in order to gather specimens of various sorts for display at the SRJC Natural History Museum (which subsequently evolved into the Native American Art Museum). He solicited the assistance of college students to help collect the specimens and these photos are from one of those expeditions.
