Doll & Cradle Board
Doll on basketry cradle board. Doll has stuffed body of white cotton cloth; wears red cloth dress with white stitches around the arm holes and at the hem. Arms and feet — white cotton. Head — carved cedar or redwood; hair— black threads; eyes — black glass buttons. Basketry cradle board with hood; open twined and diagonally twined; warp — sumac or willow; weft — redbud bark and sedge root. Field element—willow and sedge; design material — red bud bark. On top of hood is a red-painted diamond pattern, possibly done in mercurichrome or "red dirt" (red ochre?)*. Edge of board finished with redbud bark wrapping. Doll tied to cradle board with strips of pink and white cotton cloth.
