Human Face
Technique: Carved, engraved, polished. Materials: Steatite (soapstone), hardness <7; grayish black. Design Elements: Sculpture of a human face, possibly female. The face is a smooth surface with eyes, nose and mouth carved into it. Around the face area, resembling hair has texture created by thin carved lines. Distinguishing Marks: two holes drilled in back of sculpture to which wood base was attached.
