Basket
Rectangular, open basket w/handle. Technique: Wicker. Materials: ash and hickory. Design Elements: Dark warp elements just below the rim. Both sides show a half moon pattern with 3 rows of dark weft elements. There is a wide dark warp element running down each side and under the bottom at the center of the handle. There are also double rows of dark weft elements running down each end creating a stripe.
Handle is a hoop of bent wood that goes around entire basket. The top half serves as the handle. The bottom portion is included in the wicker and serves as support. There is heavy lashing w/weft elements on both sides where the handle emerges around the rim. There is a distinguishing X lashed over the handle.
