Beaded Miniature Canoe Basket

Beaded Miniature Canoe Basket

Pomo basket - coiled, single rod, canoe, beaded. Materials: willow - warp, sedgegrass - weft. Designs: beads in dark blue, light blue, green, white, and black; the beaded designs are quite irregular; the bottom has two rows of triangles in dark blue and green on a light blue field; the sides show smaller triangles in green and white; near the rim there are several rows of stripes in dark blue, green, black, light blue and white. The basket is quite finely woven. However the beadwork is amateur or perhaps the work of someone who was color blind or simply using what beads they had. Burn made by traveling salesman from Oakland between 1925 - 1930. The basket was in family ranch home for 75 years.
