Basketry hat - Modoc
This is an adaptation of a wide-brimmed sun hat. The hat shows two bold dark brown stripes around rim. A Cheesecloth strip has been added to the underside of the rim. This cloth is very worn and ragged. Materials: warp- tule; weft - tule; overlay - beargrass - full twist over lay twining ; interspensed - double rows 3 strand twining on brim. Designs - stripes - maiden hair fern. Circa 1890-1920
