These Tesuque and Picuris pottery figures were originally used in puberty rites. In the early 1900's an enterprising eastern businessman recognized their attractiveness and has a Santa Fe, New Mexico merchant buy hundreds from the Indians to give away as premiums with boxes of candy. They are usually five to six inches high." Excellent condition. This figurine is in a sitting position holding a pot resting on it's legs.
