Miniature Burden Basket
Miniature Paiute burden basket. Basket is diagonally twined using a warp and weft of willow. The tip has a metal leather covered piece that has been sewn to the basket in a running stitch with a sinew looking material. There is also a flap of the same grey leather sttached at the rim of the basket with two loops. These loops have been inserted through the basket where the finished willow rod ends and a metal 10 gauge wire si concealed. The rest of the flap has been glued to the basket. The design on the basket is fairly faded but is 3 diagonal lines that three connecteddiagonal triangles, repeated, and then the whole pattern is repeated all around the circumfrence of the basket. There are two bands of black aniline dye willow that are below the pattern and two bands above the central pattern The ending of the basket is 3 rows of a straight weft catching 3 rods of warp. A space of ›" is created with the warp ends where a willow rod has been attached with a rayon cording catching the rod at the 3 warp space. The warps in each of the units of 3 have been attached by cutting 2 warps even with the willow while the third was left long to wrap over the willow rod. The knot at the cord ending has been glued to the basket to secure flap.
