Miniature kachina - "wolf" - hand carved from cottonwood and painted with water base primary colors of red, white, black, yellow and blue. The shape of the kachinal is remeniscent of the 'tummy kachina' where the arms are positioned on the stomach. Kachina has wolf written on the bottom and a price of $1.00.

  • Cultural Context: Kachinas, called tihu by the Hopi, were traditionally made to be given as gifts to children. They were "educational" in that they helped children learn the names of the many different Katsinas. Today they are also carved to sell in the art market.
