lidded basket
Lidded oval bundle foundation coiled basket of artic grass warp and weft. Aniline dyed grass to form patterns. Patterns on one side are a walrus in the middle and a beaver chewing on a tree stump to the left. The other side is a polar bear with an upside down horseshoe or rainbow over his head. Lid has a spider on both sides. The main patterns have been sewn on after basket was made. There are other geometric designs thru out the basket that are part of the weave. Found inside the basket was a business card for Wiona's Gift Shop, 513 4th Ave., Anchorage, Alaska 99501 . . . see artifact file . . . letter sent 11/20/90( see artifact file folder)
