Mudhead Kachina with small piggyback Mudhead Kachina. The Mudhead kachina is a clown kachina who may be seen in many Hopi ceremonies. His body is painted in red-brown clay. Mudhead Kachinas drum, dance, and play games with the audience. At First Mesa they are said to sing Zuni songs. Relates to an ancient Hopi legend. The legend recounts a blind man & a crippled man who were left behind in an abandoned village who somehow found each other. The crippled man who could see rode on the shoulders of the blind man as they walked out to find their compatriots. This Hopi Kachina doll has been hand-carved from the root wood of the cottonwood tree.
