Twined Tray Basket
Part of the Elsie Allen Pomo Basket Collection.
This functional tray has a weave of plain twining that is reinforced with bands of lattice twining on the convex surface. Sedge grass root is employed in the weft that is twined over a willow warp. The designs are in redbud and are formed in three concentric band groups of geometric shapes. This appears to be a very old basket that was possibly used in the traditional manner. As such, the condition is remarkable. The piece was nicely designed and executed.
