Miniature Canoe Basket
Part of the Elsie Allen Pomo Basket Collection
Sedge grass root is coiled over a single rod foundation. Black design elements are woven in the dyed root of the bulrush. In this example, the designs are spiralling checks that extend from the rim to the base. Family records describe this design as the ant trail pattern. Pomo miniatures are made to demonstrate the weaver's skill and have been well received in today's collector's market. This example retains the form and the designs found in full-sized coiled baskets. This piece was made in 1979.
