Prints from the Canadian Printmaking Cooperatives that were formed during the 1960s and 1970s primarily at Cape Dorset, Holman Island, and Pangnirtung. Stone cut printmaking was promoted by James A. Houston, an artist and government administrator in 1949, who travelled to the Arctic to explore ventures that might supplement Inuit incomes. These printmaking communities became creative hubs that brought out an incredible outpouring of creativity through the melding of native Inuit art with contemporary printmaking techniques.
