Carved Stone Figure
Seated figure carved from a rough grey stone with whte and glassy black inclusions. Figure appears to be sitting with bent knees and arms, hands placed on chest. Figure has well formed open mouth and eyes. Wearing a rectangular headdress, which sits just behing ears on either side of head. Right side of headdress has chipped off on lower corner. A white crust appears in numerous regions of the figure, but most noticeably across legs and lowser torso area - either natural inclusions in rock or remnant of an applied surface coating. Defined naval on torso. Figure smells relatively strongly of smoke. An area of light yellow pigment is on top of head, and some possible red pigment in deeper indents aroudn ears / headdress. Donor states that white residue on back of head is stabilizing wax from her efforts to keep figure safely upright. Figure came with a home made wood and wire base - nicely carved to hold bottom of statue, but wire is very tight and likely to scratch stone around hips of figure.
Figure weighs 13 lb, 1.2 oz.
Number 1246 painted on back of sculpture with black ink or paint.
