Standing In Her Power: Portraits Beyond the colonial frame

Exhibit Dates: November 2nd, 2026- March 19th, 2027
Reception: Friday, November 13th, 2026

In early May, 2026, we put out a call for nominations, asking for Native American women to represent their Nations, their stories, and their strength through a powerful portrait exhibition celebrating identity, cultural legacy, and the resilience of Native women.  We received far more nominations than we expected.  Choosing from so many incredible women whose stories deserve to be told was not easy.  Every single entry showed us how beautiful and unique and strong Native American women are.

As we get closer to the opening date, we will be sharing behind the scenes glimpses from two days of photo sessions, held in the Museum on August 11th and 12th with photographer Alexa Treviňo of LexMex Art.
