Standing In Her Power: Portraits Beyond the colonial frame

We are calling Native American women to represent their Nations, their stories, and their strength. The SRJC Multicultural Museum is seeking TEN NATIVE AMERICAN WOMEN, across generations and tribal nations, to be selected for a powerful portrait exhibition celebrating identity, cultural legacy, and the resilience of Native women. Each participant will be photographed in her traditional regalia, honoring both personal identity and ancestral heritage. Only 10 participants will be selected for this exhibition. Do you know someone who should be seen and celebrated? Nominate yourself or a loved one. Submit a nomination by July 10th, 2026.  

What participation looks like:

  • A collaborative portrait session at the museum in August 2026
  • Space to show up as you choose: regalia, contemporary clothing, or both.
  • Option to bring meaningful objects, music, or elements that ground you
  • A pre-session conversation to connect, align, and build trust.

Each Participant will receive:

  •  a $100 honorarium
  • A selection of their portraits
  • Inclusion in a museum exhibition and publication

Key Dates:

  • July 10th, 2026: Final date to nominate yourself or someone to take part in the exhibit
  • July 21st, 2026: Participants notified. Scheduling begins.
  • August, 2026: Two dates will be secured for photographing at the SRJC Multicultural Museum.
  • November 6th, 2026: Opening reception.
