From Sheep to Loom: Diné Weaving Traditions

For the Diné, weaving is considered a ceremony. Creating a single blanket requires many steps, including shearing the sheep, cleaning, carding, spinning, and dyeing the wool, and then finally weaving. It can take hundreds of hours. This exhibit features rugs from the SRJC Multicultural Museum's collections, featuring award winning woven rugs such as a fine "Burntwater" style rug by the great Nellie Roan and many other examples of Navajo rugs from the 1920s through the 1970s.
