Lidded Basket

Lidded Basket

Basket-coiled, single rod, open weave. Willow warp and weft. Globular in shape with lid. Lid has single handle. basket originally had two handles-one on each side- one handle is broken off and is inside the basket. Handles are wrapped in leather. Unpeeled redbud warp creates the design of three narrow stripes (2 coils wide) around the middle of the basket. From volunteer April Farnham: This basket is done with interlocking stitches and has an oval start, compared to a Paiute basket which has a round start, so this basket is classically Washo. 03_12_2020
