A Glimpse of Treasure from Iran

Exhibit Dates: April 4^th, 2024 – May 2^nd, 2024

In observance of Middle Eastern and North African Heritage Month, this exhibit is a collaboration between the SRJC Multicultural Museum and members of the Middle Eastern and North African Association at Santa Rosa Junior College.

This exhibit features four objects from the SRJCMM collections, which were researched and interpreted by Nasrin Naraghi, an Iranian American instructor at the college:

The Astrolabe: the original GPS before the GPS!
A 19th Century Wedding Coin/ Treasure box
A 19th Century Kulah Khud military helmet
A leaflet from the Shahnameh, the Iranian National Epic, which was instrumental in saving and reviving the Persian language

Breaking Traditions, Saving Traditions:
Elsie Allen and the Legacy of Pomo Basketry

This remarkable collection of baskets and accompanying material will have resided at Santa Rosa Junior College for 20 years in 2023, yet it has never been exhibited in its entirety since arriving here. For the collection’s 20th Anniversary at Santa Rosa Junior College, all the baskets will be on display, filling the museum, along with photographs, previously unseen videos, and stories of the weavers themselves.
